The Weekend Is Calling

I’m taking some vacation time this week and heading to central Oregon for some R&R with my mom and sister. Our time will be filled with wine, massages, The Hunger Games, wine, and necklace making (did I mention there would be wine?). In case you’re unfamiliar with that area of our beautiful state (and Sisters in general) here’s a photo I took the last time I was there:

On a clear day, this would be a glorious view of the Three Sisters, but I still love this shot even with the clouds covering the mountains.

So with that, I push through one more work day! Stay tuned for a post about our trip as well as one about a Secret Society my brother-in-law was recently inducted into šŸ™‚

Totally Tribal

Check out this amazing scarf I picked up this weekend!

You can get a similar style here. I couldn’t find my version online, but maybe that’s for the best. It would be terribly embarrassingĀ if we both wore them on the same day.

Podnahs Pit Barbecue

On a quest to discover hidden (to me) gems of Portland, we decided to try a barbecue place in Northeast called Podnahs. Armed with nothing but our GPS and a hunger deep in our belly, we set off across the bridge to Killingsworth for some sweet, sweet ‘cue.

I should start out by saying that I worked in a BBQ joint in NYC called Blue Smoke. Because of this, I hold pulled pork to an extremely high standard and none have ever come close to measuring up. Not only that, but they have some of the greatest banana cream pie I’veĀ everĀ tasted. If you’re in New York and find yourself on East 27th between Park & Lex, please do yourself a favor and stop by! This is a one of several restaurants owned by the venerableĀ Danny Meyer. If you don’t know who he is, look him up. But I digress.

Just a Thought

Do you ever feel like you’re watching your life pass you by? Like you’re sitting on the sidelines waiting for things to happen to you instead of going out there and making them happen for yourself? I have found–after a lot of soul searching and one pretty great late night conversation with my mom–that I am guilty of just that.

My last post made me realize that I wasn’t really living in New York, and I find myself making the exact same mistakes now that I’m back in Portland. Sure, I grew up here but I moved away after high school. This is my first experience living in Portland as an adult and I’m just letting it slip by.

So this is my pledge: I vow to explore all that Portland has to offer. I promise to try new places to eat, go into local shops, visit our wonderful farmers markets and really give this place a shot. On paper, nowhere will ever measure up to New York, but take some pretty great relationships, a couple of nephews who are growing up faster than imaginable, and one kick-ass city and maybe Portland could be even better.

Here’s to adventure! Who want’s to come with me?
